Sprinkling a little bit of cinnamon on top of just about anything makes it more delicious. Which is why news that the Cinnaholic vegan bakery chain is opening its first Ottawa location has bun lovers (vegan and otherwise) salivating.
If you’ve been living under a rock, here’s all you need to know about Cinnaholic’s cinnamon roll creations: They’re gourmet. They’re vegan. They’ve been blowing the socks off cinnamon roll lovers since the company became insta famous when it was endorsed on the hit show Shark Tank a few years back.
The expansion-minded baker already has some 30 chains across the US, and a sprinkling in Canada — in Toronto, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. Now Ottawa joins the list.
So what’s all the fuss about? First up, your cinnamon roll is customizable. A build-your-own system lets you create your perfect dessert (decadent and so Instagrammable!). With more than 30 frostings and toppings, the possibilities are pretty much endless. Second, being milk- and egg-free ensures this cinnamon bun is both vegan-approved and allergy-friendly.
Local owners Elliot and Kelly Tremblay have set up shop at Lansdowne Park, so Glebe residents get bragging rights as the first location in the city.
Price: A plain cinnamon roll is about $5, and most toppings are 50 cents — so a bun weighed down by a few decadent frostings and toppings will run you $6-$7.
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 10 am to 10 pm; Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Find It: 900 Exhibition Way, Unit 102 (Lansdowne Park).
Hot Tip: On opening day — Friday, May 24 — the bakery will be offering cinnamon rolls for $1 (one per customer) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Hot Tip #2: Expand your horizons! Because every cinnamon roll is customizable, you can step out of your regular “roll rut” and try such quirky frosting flavours as banana cream, chai, or marshmallow. Or perhaps a sprinkling of pretzel bits, pie crumble, or graham cookies as a topping? Let YOLO guide you.
Hot Tip #3: Trying to stick to your diet? Grab a coffee instead. Their Java Works coffee is fair trade and organic.
