Destination Dishes: North & Navy’s Sunday at Nona’s

North & Navy departs from its regular menu for Sunday dinner to serve Italian comfort food. The small menu includes chef’s choice antipasti options for the table, hearty mains such as Venetian liver and onions, as well as Sunday Gravy.

What’s Sunday Gravy, you ask? The hearty meat sauce features a tomato base with choice cuts of meat (a recent visit saw melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, fennel sausage, and meatballs) in a heaping bowl of pasta. To really relax, go for the chef’s choice, which gives you the opportunity to simply sit back and eat what comes to the table. Our table of four elected to go this way, and we enjoyed mista and Caesar salads, fried Ontario smelts, warm olives, asparagus with pickled carrots and a zesty vinaigrette, eggplant Parmesan, along with the Sunday Gravy. You may barely have room, but dessert (silky tiramisu, grazie mille) is worth it.

Don’t forget to bring Nona! She eats for free. $38 per person for chef’s choice (à la carte items $5–$21).
