Dumpling Park’s opening heralds start of summer

They’re back! Friends and food entrepreneurs Krista O’Leary and Kelly Vu have returned with their not-so-secret trailer of lunchtime eats. Dumpling Park, tucked away in Morning Owl Coffeehouse’s back parking lot (538 Rochester St.), is hugely popular with civil servants from the nearby offices, who regularly pop by for a quick lunch in the sun.

Ordering is easy — just three daily menu items each day. Pork and chive dumplings are their specialty, so if you’re a first-timer go for the dumpling bowl, often served with zucchini noodles and jasmine rice. Options two and three usually involve a salad bowl and a noodle bowl option, and there’s always something vegan.

Bowls cost $10-$13 (including tax). Cash only. Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

City Bites Hot Tip #1: Head to Morning Owl first to pick up an iced latte, then make the five-minute walk to Dow’s Lake to tulip- and people-watch.

City Bites Hot Tip #2: Vegans should keep an eye on the dumpling menu. O’Leary and Vu, who make their dumpling dough from scratch, are experimenting with vegan dumplings and hope to introduce them later this summer.
