Chai latte on the rocks — now instantly available on your backyard patio or deck. This brilliant idea courtesy of jam guy Michael Sunderland, who recently began selling icy chai lattes ($4) at the Ottawa Farmers’ Market made using his homemade chai.
Farmers market-goers sampled Sunderland’s chai lattes, swooned, and then asked the obvious question — “Where can I go to get this instant energizer the rest of the week?”
And so the mason jar of Michaelsdolce chai tea was launched.
Open the jar and breathe in the aromas of ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves. Sweet and spicy, with just a hint of pepper. This is the real deal. All you have to do is fill a glass with ice cubes, pour a slug of chai tea over it, and top up with some milk. Cold, refreshing perfection.
A 500-mL jar ($10) makes 3-4 servings of chai.
City Bites Hot Tip: If you can’t make it to the farmers’ market, you can snap up a jar at the Seed to Sausage shop at 729 Gladstone (while you’re there, pick up some japapeno cheese curd smokies to heat up on the barbecue).
