Montreal’s La Diperie soft serve comes to Westboro

Ottawa is certainly catching on fast to Quebec’s penchant for soft-serve.

The suburbs have been covered by the Chocolats Favoris chain, which has dipped-cone locations in Orleans, Barrhaven, and Kanata. Now La Diperie is bringing its decadent dips to the core, opening its first Ottawa shop in Westboro.

Here’s how it works:  Choose a size and cone; opt for one of more than 30 delightful dips (which range from the standard milk chocolate and dark chocolate to more adventurous options like caramel fleur de sel, matcha, and lemonade), then roll it all in the topping of your choice (think crushed Oreos, sprinkles, pretzels, even Lucky Charms).

Beyond the cones, there are ice cream sandwiches, sundaes, milkshakes and, for special occasions, ice cream cakes. Oh, and mini doughnuts.

With this many options to lick your way through, keep your fingers crossed for a long, hot summer.

Find it: 429 Richmond Rd. The plan is to be open daily, noon till 9 p.m. but the hours will likely be modified as La Diperie settles into the ‘hood.

Prices: Depending on size and how you load them up, cones run $1.50-$6.

Hot Tip: It’s vegan-friendly. Vegan soft serve, dips, and toppings make La Diperie super inclusive. There’s also a vegan version of the cookie-dough sundae.

Hot Tip #2: Instagram like crazy! La Diperie dubs itself “home of the turquoise wall since 2014” and that Tiffany shade is the perfect backdrop for sprinkle-dipped cones and sundaes.

Hot Tip #3: Not big on super-sweet treats? Coffee’s on the menu so you can get super caffeinated just in time to chase after kids on a sugar high.
