HEADS UP – Healing the marine ecosystem one move at a time

What’s going on TUESDAY, DEC. 15

Overfishing, illegal fishing, habitat damage, pollution, and climate change all have ill effects on the marine ecosystem.

The Ottawa Wave Makers grant was created through a partnership between Ottawa’s Impact HUB and WWF-Canada, a first-of-its-kind micro-grant awarding $28,000 in funding to support projects in the nation’s capital that raise awareness about Canada’s oceans, with up to $5,000 going to a single project.

Grant winners Tabatha Soltay and JP Veilleux are ready to unveil their project. Shrimps Matter, a two-to-four player game aiming to raise awareness about the interconnected and fragile nature of an ocean ecosystem, will be available to play at the Impact HUB on Tuesday, Dec. 15 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The game is currently based around a Canadian Maritime ecosystem. Prefer a different body of water to play through? You can e-mail Soltay and Veilleux to request an ecosystem. Visit the website to learn more or purchase the game.
