CAPITAL VELO RALLY
It’s summertime and wherever you look, you can’t miss the cyclists zooming around town. Join in the fun at Capital Velo Rally, a fun-filled day of cycling through the streets of Ottawa. Riding in a team of 3-6 people, you’ll have to decipher the route, in addition to finding answers to crazy clues and quizzes, all in a friendly competition among other riders. Registration includes a light breakfast, post-rally snacks, drinks, and prizes for every participant.$20 per rider. DUSK DANCES OTTAWA
Allow host Annie Lefebvre to lead you through five unique dance pieces as the sun sets over Strathcona Park. Featuring live music by Ottawa’s Junkyard Symphony, Propeller Dance (a leader in integrative dance), choreography by Anjali Patil, and works from visiting artists, this pay-what-you-can event is sure to wow you, and at the same time support the local performing scene. GALITCHA & THE BOLLYWOOD HEAT
Bollywood has taken the world by storm, and this upcoming event proves it yet again. Galitcha is a Canadian ensemble that integrates music with a strong North Indian style. Overlaid with influences from western folk and jazz, Galitcha (meaning tapestry) takes audiences on a musical journey from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other. The evening will also include Bollywood dance performances and demonstrations with audience participation. $15. Friday, July 12 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. GARDEN PARTY & TEA IN SUPPORT OF CANADIAN GUIDE DOGS FOR THE BLIND
Garden parties and tea invoke picturesque images of a tranquil setting and atmosphere. In this case, patrons will be served authentic cream tea with imported Devon cream from the U.K., and scones prepared by the chef at Earnscliffe, the Residence of the British High Commissioner. Fancy that! All in support of Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind; since 1984, the organizations have provided professionally trained dogs to Canadians who are visually impaired. $13 in advance, $15 at the door.
