How did you come up with the colour scheme?

Melissa: We knew we were having a girl, so we decided to make the room a little bit girly and a little bit traditional. We knew right away that we’d use soft pinks and creams and whites.

What are the key elements?

Sacha: We started with the wallpaper. We wanted to do something a little bit original with that, so we framed it out on the wall. We also put in crown moulding. Those elements soften the room and give it that modern but traditional feel we were going for.

M: The medallion around the light fixture adds to that overall feeling.

What are your favourite items?

M: The wallpaper, definitely. And the llamas. They’re just so cute and add so much personality to the room! Our daughter is a year old, so she’s starting to pet them and play with them.

S: For me it’s the chandelier, because it really sets the tone for the entire room.

What tips do you have for others designing a baby room?

M: Have fun with it. You want to make it unique and personal, but there’s so much out there that choosing a colour scheme and decor items can seem overwhelming. I tell people to limit their Pinterest time! Really, though, the key is to pick a few key elements and go from there. For us, it was the wallpaper, the crib, and the dresser. Those set the tone.

S: You don’t have to look at just baby things — you don’t have to look at just kids’ curtains and kids’ wallpapers. You can design a baby’s room where the only “kid” element is the crib. That makes everything a lot more flexible as they grow up.
