Last week, we asked readers to share their memories of Justin Trudeau, particularly if they had had the opportunity to meet Trudeau during his years in Ottawa.
Reader Ashley Cottee, an Ottawa photographer, shares her brush with the future prime minister at a charity boxing match nearly four years ago, along with some photographs of an event that made national headlines.
Have you met Justin Trudeau? Tell us about it — send your memories to feedbackottawa [at] stjosephmedia.com and we’ll share your stories and photos with our readers.
Through his employer at the time, (my husband) Trevor was involved with Final Round Fight For The Cure. As a result, I was fortunate enough to be a guest for the gala and in turn brought a camera along, albeit a more compact non-professional camera.
In 2011 Trevor was told that the boxers for the 2012 “white-collar match” would be a bit more than local celebrities, as in previous years. The fifth anniversary of the event would instead feature then Liberal Member of Parliament Justin Trudeau and then Conservative Senator Patrick Brazeau.
While neither of us had an opportunity to meet Mr. Trudeau at the time, it was still nice to be a part of an event that raised approximately $250,000 for local cancer charities, see such a unique boxing match, and capture a few photos from our ringside table.
