Even if you’re not in the market for a wedding gown, the news that U.S. retailer David’s Bridal is opening a location in Ottawa is pretty big. After all, this means more affordable cocktail dresses and sparkly shoes — not to mention the fact that Montreal shoppers could be coming this way for a change!
The 8,000 sq. ft. store, which opens tomorrow at Trainyards, is the fourth to open in Canada, will be the exclusive source for White by Vera Wang, a line that offers VW signature style at prices that range from $600 to $1,600. (And those are higher price points than the other collections at David’s; prices for Galina Signature, Oleg Cassini, and others start at $300.)
If you are hearing wedding bells, though, then the opening has the potential to be a game-changer in terms of planning.
For one, sizes from zero to 26 will be kept in stock. Alterations will also be available, but if you’re a perfect size 10, one visit to David’s could take care of one critical element of the wedding ceremony.
Speaking of that visit, David’s doesn’t require appointments — though they do suggest making one if you’re coming in on a weekend or with a group.
Going to a gala? Cocktail dresses at David’s Bridal start at $89. In fact, red carpet style and bridal gowns seem to be overlapping quite a bit this season — just check out the nude strapless numbers worn by the likes of Kate Beckinsale.

Watch this post for more photos from the opening, including interior photography and Mayor Jim Watson cutting a big ribbon at the new store.
And if you are in the market for bridal or cocktail wear, this week is a great time to make that visit — introductory offers include $50-$200 off select gowns, gift cards for the first 300 attendees, and other discounts.
