When Spencer Edwards (aka Proprpostur) told us about a new video he created for the funky Swedish company Happy Socks, we had one of those dizzying editorial moments that comes from having a jam-packed production schedule.
With seven regular issues of Ottawa Magazine, plus an ever-growing number of special annual publications, like Shopping and Eating & Drinking, it can be easy to forget what season, or even what year, we’re currently experiencing. Getting a note from Spencer was like hearing from an old friend: it reminded us of old times, as he was featured in the 2011-12 of Shopping, and got us excited about the future, specifically the release of the 2012-13 edition. (More stylebook than guidebook, Shopping 2012-13 brings a focus to the people who make Ottawa stylish. Watch SHOP TALK for more details in the coming weeks.)
And it was fitting that the sartorial subject of Spencer’s project be the sock. As we are inundated with authoritative lists regarding fall trends, we like bright socks for a number of reasons: great investment value (even if you don’t show ’em off by rolling up your pant cuffs, everyone needs to put something between skin and shoe); the cheeky way socks can punch up a boring outfit; and, as Spencer points out in this video, there’s a sexy appeal to sharing clothes with your mate.
