THE Q&A: Talking beauty regimens with entrepreneur Rebecca Cook of Bare Love Beauty

Shop Talk is written by OM senior editor Dayanti Karunaratne and Sarah Fischer, OM account executive and fashion maven.

This week, SHOP TALK chats with beauty entrepreneur Rebecca Cook about developing her product, finding her passion, and the beauty regime of a new mom.

I hear you’re a new mom. Do you maintain your beauty regime when you’re just hanging about the house with your little one? How does your lifestyle affect what products you use?
I definitely use less makeup being at home most of the time in my office and busy with my son. Part of my mission for my brand was to minimize the clutter in a woman’s beauty cabinet. I use all three of my products, of course, and it keeps all the bases covered.  Your skin and hormones are up and down post-pregnancy, so I really don’t like fussing over products.

Rebecca Cook is the brains behind Bare Love Beauty

On your website you write about discovering an “advanced all-natural technology to progress your oils to new levels.” What’s wrong with natural oils in their natural state?
Nothing at all. Oils are my passion and I wanted them to become more mainstream. There’s a huge cult following because of the amazing properties in oil-based natural skincare. Through Bare Love Beauty’s proprietary OlioLove™Technology, the oils are formulated into a firm and buttery treatment that is easy to apply and doesn’t drip.

Where do you get your oils? What factors do you consider when choosing the source?
They are sourced from all over the world, but specifically from plants in Brazil and Italy —botanicals and fruits. I always ensure any ingredient I consider is naturally derived and free of synthetic ingredients. I also want my customers to have access to exotic and luxury ingredients that are unique and hard to come by.
What has been the most frustrating part of developing the brand?
I started my brand development in 2010 and have been able to take my time reaching each milestone. I really focused on doing things right and not cutting any corners. I have a lot of experience in the industry and knew what I wanted to develop for myself and my future BLB lovers. The most challenging aspect would have to be remembering to enjoy every moment of this incredible opportunity, taking each achievement to heart and not looking too far ahead at what I need to become.
What was the most satisfying experience?
Seeing my brand come to life and on shelves — especially in such great retailers such as Fred Segal, DermStore.com, eBeauty.ca, Green Beauty, Moksha Yoga, terra20, and Queen Mother Maternity.
What’s next for Bare Love Beauty?
We are definitely looking at adding to the brand’s collection of products, such as Bare Love Lip and Bare Love Baby.
