Yes, the extravaganza that is the Ottawa Wine & Food Festival brings out the foodies and the wine connoisseurs, the locavores and those who tweet about their every meal.

But there are also visitors who just want to be seen, people who attend it for the novelty of eating an array of fine foods while socializing with friends and strangers. Because, hey, with Ottawa’s overabundance of Irish-themed pubs, it’s fun to imbibe in an atmosphere other than a bar.

Either way, it might be useful for the first-time festival-goer to know that it’s completely de rigueur to get dolled up for this event. You will see and be seen; judgment may occur.

Faux-leather skirt, Edit by Jeanne Beker, The Bay, $89; burgundy faux-fur scarf, Tristan, $50; gold bangle set, Addition Elle, $20; sleeveless scoopneck top, Smart Set, $28; black suede booties, ECCO, currently on sale $129; leopard print purse, Danier, currently on sale for $119.

And while you don’t want to look like you’re going to a gala, this isn’t a trip to the grocery store either. You’re going for something casual yet special; an outfit that’s trendy but still takes into account some of the practicalities of being on your feet and consuming lots of great food and drink.

Herewith, a couple looks we like for this weekend. Cheers!
